This week will be the United Nations climate summit, so I decided to support an initiative that promotes Healthy Food and that helps our environment.

This initiative is launched by Slow food Netherlands * and this is as simple as a Culinary Calendar to help us parents to buy, cook and eat seasonal products. Not only the calendar shows you the ingredients but it also gives you cooking tips.

The price is 14.95E, can be sent in Netherlands and abroad.

This is not the only initiative or association/group/website that speak about the topic, but do not we say that a picture is worth that thousand words …? 😊

That is all well and good you may say but why is this so important to eat seasonal fruits and vegetables, and to eat local products?

In winter our body is impacted by the cold, so it needs more nutrients. Nature does things well as in the winter it gives us vegetables full of nutrients like leeks, turnip, cabbage, pumpkins or fruits like orange full of C Vitamins.

In the summer our body needs water to adjust with the heat, and nature gives us strawberry, watermelon, tomatoes, melon, and other fruits and veggies full of water 😊

No to mention that those seasonal and local treasures grow in real soil and not under greenhouse and contain less chemical.

Also, when we eat seasonal products, it is easier to eat local. No need to import tomatoes from abroad in the winter or to transport by plane … consequently we decrease our carbon footprint!

Between you and me Tomatoes are never as good as in summer!

I cannot wait to read your comments and opinion, tips !

* Slow Food is a global, grassroots organization, founded in 1989 to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, counteract the rise of fast life and combat people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from and how our food choices affect the world around us.
